Dan’s Accomplishments So Far

  • Collaborated with fellow Republicans to bring fresh leadership and reform to the county health department.

  • Co-sponsored the property tax cap for residents 55 and older, limiting annual increases to 2% and providing tax relief for seniors.

  • Worked toward and voted for three balanced county budgets, including leading the effort as Council President to deliver a balanced budget for 2026.

  • Worked across party lines in 2024 to secure raises for sheriff’s officers, helping stabilize and strengthen the department.

  • Partnered with the county engineer to pave more Granger subdivision roads in the past three-plus years than in any other three-year period in the 2000s.

  • Successfully advocated for and secured funding to build Anderson Trail Park on county-owned land that had sat undeveloped for 25 years — financed without raising taxes and achieved despite opposition from some fellow Republicans.

  • Helped relocate Granger’s new highway facility, based on citizen feedback, from a site next to Anderson Trail Park to a less visible location in an industrial zone.

  • Voted to attract new businesses and create jobs in St. Joseph County.

  • Traveled to Montreal, Canada (at personal expense) to advocate for and help resolve the long-standing railroad crossing issue at Anderson and Cherry Roads.

  • Sponsored and co-sponsored common-sense regulations for the solar industry.

  • Opposed a proposed abatement ordinance that would have granted large corporations significant tax breaks without requiring local hiring; instead, co-sponsored a revised ordinance that simplified the process, made abatements more accessible to small and medium-sized businesses, and mandated a percentage of local workforce hiring for recipients.
